Marsh Aviary Reopens

The penguins are not the only birds who recently got a new home at the Zoo. Ten species of birds, native to Maryland, have now been introduced into the newly reconstructed Marsh Aviary in the Maryland Wilderness. That aviary has been undergoing major renovations since late winter.

These renovations were made necessary by the destruction of the old aviary during the twin blizzards of 2010. The aviary houses a variety of bird species including turkey vulture, black vulture, wood duck, black-crowned night heron, little blue heron and cattle egret. This area is also home to the kid-favorite lily pad water feature. Be sure to visit these birds in their new home on your next Zoo visit.
